There’s some bad news for Law & Order fans tonight, Thursday, Nov. 6. It’s not a night of the Dick Wolf drama.

As the promos for both Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU told us, we would have to wait a bit for a new episode of the two shows. This isn’t some random break with reruns, either, so you’ll need to turn to Peacock to watch older episodes while you wait.

Why are Law & Order and SVU on a break?

NBC has opted to switch up the schedule a little, pre-empting the two shows. Rather than new episodes or reruns, we’ll have a Wicked special. Wicked: One Wonderful Night will take up the two hours that we’re used to watching some of our favorite TV shows.

Law & Order: Organized Crime takes over the last slot of the night right now, but that’s not going to be the case tonight, either. There will be reruns of the St. Denis Medical season 2 premiere episodes instead, helping to keep the trio of Dick Wolf shows on track with episode numbers.

The good news is that this break is a short one. Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU will return on Thursday, Nov. 13, as the promos made clear.

Law & Order returns with David Ajala’s introduction

When Law & Order season 25 returns, we’ll get to meet Riley’s new partner. David Ajala will join the precinct, and he’s likely to see just how much Riley can turn a blind eye to race crimes while trying to get the job done. It’s something that came up between Riley and Shaw a lot, and it’s sure to cause a problem with this new partner as well.

The case itself is the murder of a Black teen, a high school sports star. It turns out that there are a few suspects, as people tried to make money of the victim’s talents, and the cops will need to figure out who actually did it.

Ice T returns in Law & Order: SVU season 27 episode 7

Meanwhile, there’s some exciting news with the return of Law & Order: SVU. Ice-T will be back as Fin, after taking time off since the premiere of the season. The time off is likely linked to the budget cuts happening to all the Dick Wolf shows, but it’s time for Fin to show who is boss.

As for the case, the team will need to get to the bottom of a best-selling author who is protecting serial rapists. The author is twisting the details of a serious crime, and Benson and her team will need to get to the bottom of the fact in the fiction.

Law & Order and SVU will return on Thursday, Nov. 13 starting at 8/7c on NBC.
