After the thrilling two-episode Law & Order crossover event, we are more than ready for new episodes. There’s some bad news to kick off tonight, Thursday, April 24.

There isn’t a new episode of either Law & Order series. At least, not the ones that air on NBC. There is good news that Law & Order: Organized Crime dropped a new episodes on Peacock, but that episode won’t air on NBC tonight. As we reported, Law & Order: Organized Crime only got to air its season 5 premiere on NBC, with remaining episodes airing on Peacock only.

Why aren’t the Law & Order shows new tonight?

What’s with the break in the schedule? Well, this is likely two-fold. The main reason is to stretch out the remaining episodes left. We know that the season finales of both shows will air on Thursday, May 15, and there are just three episodes left to air. So, with that in mind, we need one more break.

This week is a good one as well. ABC will air the NFL Draft, and this is a popular event for sports fans. So, with the risk of people tuning into the draft instead of a new episode of Thursday dramas, it makes sense for NBC to put the break here.

When will Law & Order and SVU return with new episodes?

There isn’t long to wait for the new episode. This is just a one-week break, with new episodes airing on Thursday, May 1. There won’t be a break after that, with the finales set to air two weeks after that return.

Law & Order season 24, episode 20 will see Riley and Shaw back together, investigating the murder of a car mechanic. That murder was done execution-style, which suggests that it was premeditated and targeted. However, it’s also a sign that the car mechanic’s job was a cover for something else.

Meanwhile, in Law & Order: SVU season 26, episode 20, Benson and the team will need to help find a missing girl. The question is whether she was taken in the moment when someone saw the car she was in was available, or whether it was targeted for her specifically. It’s looking like the latter in the promo below.

Law & Order and SVU air Thursdays starting at 8/7c on NBC.
