We are ready for more episodes of Law & Order and SVU, but there’s some bad news. While there may be reruns throughout the winter period, we’re not getting any more new episodes of the two shows in 2024.
We are officially into the winter hiatus. This is the time of year when shows head on a lengthy break and the networks put on reruns and specials. It makes a lot of sense in terms of business and just our personal lives, but it doesn’t mean we have to like it.
Why aren’t Law & Order and SVU new on NBC?
What’s with the lack of new episodes? This is a two-folded reason.
The main reason is due to the filming of episodes. The cast and crew take this time off as well so that they can spend time with their families. It means no episodes are filmed during this time, so a break would have to happen eventually.
Opting for the break now is good for the second reason. We spend more time with our families. We tend to watch movies, or we look forward to the specials that the networks offer. Some of us go out on an evening for events, and that leads to fewer people watching main TV on a nightly basis. Why would the networks run the risk of lower linear ratings?
When will Law & Order and SVU return?
The good news is that both shows will return in 2025. We don’t even have to wait that long. There’s a little more than a month left to go, as both Law & Order and SVU will return on Thursday, Jan. 16, starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
We don’t have details of what to expect in the episodes just yet, but that’s not surprising. There’s still a wait for them, and we could find that the episodes are still going through the post-production stage. We’ll find out the details closer to the time.
Law & Order and SVU are both available to stream on Peacock if you need to catch up or want to rewatch your favorite episodes.
