Law & Order and SVU aren't new tonight, but there is some good news

Law & Order and SVU are still on their winter breaks. There is some good news for those wanting to at least watch a rerun tonight, Thursday, Jan. 9.

We are more than ready to see the Law & Order shows back on our screens with new episodes. There’s just a little bit of bad news tonight, Thursday, Jan. 9.

Neither Law & Order or SVU will air new episodes tonight. That’s despite NBC bringing the One Chicago lineup back last night. That’s okay, though. A longer break is arguably a good thing. It’s not that much longer, either.

Law & Order and SVU will air reruns tonight, Thursday, Jan. 9

We are getting a night of reruns on NBC tonight, and it all starts with a rerun of Law & Order season 24. We’re heading back to episode 8, titled “Bad Apple.” The episode saw a narcotics officer show in the back, leading to Brady returning to her old precinct. She wants to get to the bottom of the murder, but when the suspect’s story doesn’t add up, she needs Riley and Shaw to help her.

As for Law & Order: SVU, it’s also the eighth episode of the current season. This is important for the return of the show next week, as we’re sure to pick back up off a few things that happened. Carisi was held captive during this episode, and he witnessed some horrific things. He’s not okay after all that, even though he would like to say he is. If you need a reminder before we head into the midseason premiere next week, now is the time to watch.

When will the Law & Order shows return?

Both shows will be back on Thursday, Jan. 16. This isn’t too long to wait, and it’s actually a good thing.

With the extra week off now, it means that we won’t need an extra break at some point in the schedule. After all, there are more weeks to May than there are episodes available. This always leads to an on-off schedule that irritates us as viewers. Consistency is essential in the grand scheme of things for TV shows.

Law & Order and SVU are available to stream on Peacock if you need to catch up or if you just want to rewatch older episodes.
