Olivia Benson isn't working a case tonight (When is Law & Order: SVU back?)
Thursdays are spent with our favorite SVU family, but that’s not happening tonight, Thursday, Nov. 28. There isn’t a new episode of Law & Order: SVU tonight.
This shouldn’t be surprising when you think about the day of the year that it is. It’s Thanksgiving, and broadcast networks tend to opt for specials and reruns tonight. Putting on a new episode of scripted content is guaranteed to make the linear ratings drop considerably. Ask Supernatural fans about that!
NBC already has something big to air on Thanksgiving Night. It gets the linear rights to the football game. It’s classed as a special “Sunday” Night Football in the schedule. So, that’s what you can watch on NBC instead.
Law & Order: SVU won’t be back in 2024
There is more bad news when it comes to the series. There won’t be any more new episodes of Law & Order: SVU season 26 in 2024. No, the show hasn’t been canceled outright. It’s just on its winter break. The Nov. 21 episode was the fall finale, which is why it was such a big one! There’s a lot to break down after that, and there is a huge impact on Carisi afterward.
But we’ll need to wait to see what that impact is going to be. The next new episode isn’t until 2025.
NBC has set the return date. Law & Order: SVU will return on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It’s the night all three Thursday shows on NBC return, which means another night of crime and justice!
The promo doesn’t give us much to work with for the show when it returns. This is a basic promo to tell us when Benson and the team will return. We’ll need to wait until a little closer to the time to get a synopsis for the episode.
Here’s the promo just so you can get ready for it:
Until then, we can turn to Peacock to rewatch all episodes of Law & Order: SVU.
