Streaming services have brought some excellent crime dramas that we wouldn’t usually get to watch. BritBox is the home of so many excellent British crime dramas, and there’s a new one coming up. It’s all about Lynley.
The new series is based on the books by Elizabeth George. Created by ITV in the UK, the show has the rights to different books compared to the original The Inspector Lynley Mysteries TV series, which means a fresh take on the characters and new cases to break down.
The first episode is now available to watch, with subsequent episodes arriving weekly. This is the way BritBox handles a lot of its original content, because, well, it wants you to keep tuning in. Honestly, with 90-minute episodes, this is one that you need to watch weekly.
Lynley season 1 release schedule
Yes, like Sherlock from BBC, Lynley is a show with 90-minute episodes. This is something that a lot of British shows are doing, with Karen Pirie also following the same format. It does mean that there are fewer episodes to the season, but there’s still a similar amount of time spent with the characters as with an eight-episode series.
Only the first episode is available to watch as of today, Thursday, Sept. 4. The remaining episodes will drop on a weekly basis, filling up the September calendar before we jump into Karen Pirie season 2 and all of broadcast’s fall TV schedule.
BritBox shows tend to drop at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT, so the episodes will be available as you wake up. This could be a great watch at the weekend when you have plenty more uninterrupted time rather than having to rush around work and school.

What is Lynley about?
The series follows Tommy Lynley, a brilliant police detective who has always been an outsider. You can blame his aristocratic upbringing for that. Yet, despite his upbringing, he’s ready to get stuck in when he needs to so that he can solve a case.
When he’s teamed up with Barbara Havers, a maverick sergeant, he seems to think that they are completely opposites and will never get any work done. In fact, she’s sure that she’s going to need to babysit the City Boy now out in the country. Well, things take a turn as they both realize that opposites can work together, and sometimes, a mismatched duo is exactly what a case needs.
