Matlock is not coming back in March 2025, and here's why

Matlock is heading on a lengthy break, and we can all blame sports.
“A Guy Named Greg” – Matty’s rusty trial skills are put to the test during a wrongful termination case by a woman claiming she was sexually harassed by her boss. There is some disappointing news for Matlock fans. The previous episode was the last one for some time. There won’t be any new episodes of Matlock in March 2025.

This isn’t bad for the series as a whole. However, it is disappointing for those who want to see the next part in the story. Don’t worry; there won’t be any spoilers in this post for the most recent episode. We’re just getting into the reason for the delay in episodes.

March Madness is taking over the CBS schedule

For the next few weeks, it’s going to be all about basketball. It’s March Madness, and that means every Thursday and Friday will be dedicated to the college games. CBS gets to air the games, which it has done for a number of years now. We’re used to this break around this time of the year; it’s just the first time that it’s happened to Matlock.

That takes out the rest of March 2025. It’s not the only series that is going to take some time off. The entire Thursday and Friday night lineup is off once again. There are no reruns either since it’s all about basketball.

The question for many is how long the break is going to be. We know all of March is out, but March Madness doesn’t come to an end until Monday, April 7. With that in mind, we’re potentially not going to see new episodes until Thursday, April 10. CBS hasn’t confirmed that at the time of writing this, though.

The break is good in the long-term. With a break now, it means fewer breaks when the show does return to get it to May, so we get more of a consistent schedule.

No, No Monsters
“No, No Monsters” – YouThree help Olympia defend a defamed nanny at her children’s school. Also, Matty is on a stressful hunt for an important document on the Wellbrexa case, on MATLOCK, Thursday, Dec. 12 (9:01-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Matlock is safe for the 2025–2026 TV season

There is some good news, though. This CBS series isn’t one that’s in danger, as the network already confirmed the renewal. In fact, Matlock was one of the first shows on the network to score a renewal, coming off a successful premiere.

That would mean that Matty’s true identity shouldn’t be fully revealed before the end of the first season. If it is, it means she’ll have to have figured out who was responsible for the opioids to remain on the market.

Matlock is available to stream on Paramount+.
