May is almost here, and we know it means the end of the regular TV season. However, CBS is wrapping up the season in April for a lot of shows, and Matlock is one of them.
Yes, we have only just got Matlock back after a two-week break due to March Madness. It’s not back for long, as the two-part season finale is just around the corner. At least we know that there is more to Matty’s tale, as Matlock season 2 was confirmed back in 2024!
When will the Matlock season 1 finale air on CBS?
The season finale is going to be two hours long. While CBS has opted to split up the FBI: International and Watson two-part finales, it’s decided to put the two hours of Matlock on one night. No, it doesn’t make sense, but we’re not complaining at two hours of Kathy Bates proving why she got this role.
The episodes will air on Thursday, April 17. Yes, that is next week!
Make sure you set your DVR for two hours if you’re going to record. The episodes will start at 9 p.m. ET/PT and run into Elsbeth’s timeslot. As you can probably tell from that, there won’t be a new episode of Elsbeth that night!

What to expect in the Matlock season 1 finale
The finale will give Sarah a juicy case to deal with. Her client is arrested when the man’s business partner has been found murdered. Naturally, the first suspicion is on the business partner — think of that relationship as a little like a spousal one. It’s always the spouse!
Billy will attempt to help Sarah with the case. After all, Matty and Olympia have something else to deal with. We don’t know exactly what that “something else” is, but it’s a pressing confidential matter.
Considering Matty has managed to avoid her real identity coming out so far, there are questions about whether it will eventually come out in the season 1 finale. Who will be the first person to find out who Matty is, and how?
Matlock airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
