When Matlock season 2 went on a temporary break, we weren’t sure for how long. Nor were we sure of how many episodes were left to air. Well, now the schedule has been updated, and we finally know when we’ll be saying goodbye to the series until the new year.
There is some disappointing news in this. Matlock season 2 will wrap up the first part of its story sooner than most other shows on the network. There is only NCIS: Origins that will air its fall finale before Matlock, with all other CBS shows holding their fall finales the week after.

CBS has set the date for Thursday, Dec. 11 for the Matlock season 2 finale. All other Thursday shows will also air regular episodes that night, so there is no change to the timeslot.
This is a holiday-themed episode for the series, making it clear that it is the last one of the year. The show will be back in 2026, but not until February. CBS has opted to hold all returns until after the Winter Olympics, making it much easier to keep a consistent schedule when everything returns to normal, and honestly, we don’t blame CBS for doing this.
What to expect on Matlock season 2 episode 8?
Secrets threaten to come out in the Matlock season 2 fall finale. The team will need to work together on a harassment case involving the city’s fire department, and this is sure to lead to someone finding out a little more about Matty or Olympia’s recent involvement with the Wellbrexa study. This could expose everything they’ve been working on to take Senior down.
Meanwhile, Matty has her own personal storyline to deal with. She and Edwin will need to decide whether they should meet Joey’s sister. This is a woman who may be able to help shed a light on the type of man Joey is, and she may even be able to vouch for him. At the end of the day, she is Alfie’s aunt, and maybe it’s time Alfie had more people in his life.
While Matlock will head out on its winter break after this, the remaining Thursday shows will air with a special schedule the following week. There are two episodes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage followed by two episodes of Ghosts and then an episode of Elsbeth, so there isn’t even room for a rerun.
