While many feared about Blythe’s life in Countdown season 1, episode 9, Oliveras put her focus on another member of the team at the same time. She wants to get Meachum the help he needs, especially as the tumor symptoms are starting to get worse.

Caution: There are some SPOILERS for Countdown season 1, episode 9

In the latest episode, Meachum suffered more blinding headaches and moments of dizziness. One of those moments nearly led to him falling over the edge of a building, but fortunately, Finau was just behind him and caught him.

Oliveras knows that Meachum doesn’t really want to tell others about his tumor, and she can’t do anything due to it being a medical issue. So, she decided to turn to a doctor friend, who she saw in the hospital while Blythe was being treated. This friend was from Chicago, and it’s clear that he likes her, and he’s willing to do a few favors.

Meachum hasn’t had a second opinion in Countdown

When Oliveras gave the card of her friend, she mentioned that Meachum likely didn’t seek a second opinion. It was clear from his wording questioning her about the second opinion that he hasn’t. He’s taken one doctor’s word for a treatment plan, almost like he’s accepted death.

However, he’s not accepted death. He isn’t one to just let the tumor take over, and he’s trying everything he can to deal with the pain. He’ll take whatever time he has left.

So, why didn’t he seek a second opinion? This is likely due to the way he works. He’s a man who will take information give to him straight away, especially when it comes from what seems to him as a trusted source. He hasn’t questioned the information that Bell, Shepherd, or others have found, and he’s followed orders, even if he hasn’t liked them.

When a doctor told him that treating the tumor would likely lead to death, he trusted that. Plus, he doesn’t want to die yet. He wants to die doing something good in the world.

Could Meachum get a better prognosis?

The new doctor may see something that the original one didn’t. However, it’s important to remember that in Countdown, this new guy said he’s running clinical research. This could suggest that Meachum has the type of tumor that he’s working on, leading to Meachum getting an offer to be a part of it.

This is possibly how the truth comes out to the rest of the team. He may need to step aside from the task force, or he may stall out the treatments until the end of the situation. With the way that bonds have slowly formed with some of these team members, we’ll likely see them all by his side has he takes the plunge for the research to remove the tumor.

Countdown airs on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
