The trial of Amanda Knox reached the world, especially with the way she was convicted, acquitted, and then convicted again. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is just the latest of stories to tell the tale, but there are three other documentaries from the past to check out.
Two of the documentaries are aimed at telling Amanda Knox’s story, but what about Meredith Kercher, the woman who was murdered? She is another person we need to explore as we delve deeper into this twisted and shocking case.
Is Amanda Knox Guilty?
The first of the three documentaries is Is Amanda Knox Guilty?, a BBC Three documentary that was filmed in 2015. This was a look back at the events as they were all fresh in the minds of people, as it was only in 2015 that the Italian Supreme Court finally overturned the conviction for the final time, making it clear that the Italians couldn’t go after Amanda again.
Paul Rssell and Andrea Vogt had followed the entire case from start to finish before making the 60-minute documentary. They turned to Meredith’s siblings, Stephanie and Lyle Kercher for interviews, as well as talking to the defense lawyers and experts from both sides of the case. The focus was on delving into the heartbreak of the two families, rather than just a focus on Amanda’s trials.

Amanda Knox
Then in 2016, Netflix brought a documentary about Amanda Knox, titled Amanda Knox. This was mostly focused on Amanda, and it was the start of her journey into becoming an activist and author. She shared interviews via the documentary, and there were also interviews from her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, who had also been convicted and acquitted with her.
Other interviews included Nick Pisa from the Daily Mail and the Italian prosecutor Giuliano Mignini, giving us a look inside the case and the investigations. There’s also a chance to find out more about her life in prison for the four years she was held there before initially being convicted, and the fear of being convicted and extradited after she got back home.
Amanda Knox is on Netflix.
The Murder of Meredith
Finally, we turn to Prime Video for the 2022 documentary The Murder of Meredith. This puts some of the focus on Meredith Kercher and her story, as realistically should have happened in the first place to highlight her story.
The documentary took the opportunity to delve into the case itself. After all, the Italians needed to find their murderer, and they didn’t want it to be one of their own. But with all the errors in the case, what did that do to Meredith’s family? The documentary explores that to share the story of a family torn and broken.
The Murder of Meredith is on Prime Video.
