The NCIS franchise is taking a night off once more (but we know when it will return)

There isn't a new episode of NCIS or NCIS: Origins on tonight, Monday, April 7. Here's why, and when the shows will return.

It’s Monday night, and that’s supposed to mean NCIS night. Well, there is some bad news about the series tonight, Monday, April 7. There isn’t going to be a new episode of either series tonight.

Breaks in the schedule are always disappointing. This one isn’t just linked to scheduling needs for the shows, though, and we’ll get to that in a moment. The good news is that this should be the last break until the respective season finales, as there are now enough episodes to kill in the weeks.

Why isn’t there a new episode of NCIS or NCIS: Origins on tonight?

We can blame basketball for this one. The final of the NCAA 2025 tournament is taking place tonight, and CBS is the one to air it. This means the entire Monday night lineup is off for another week. The shows did warn us of this break with their promos.

The break does also help CBS spread out the episodes that it has available to get us to the finale dates. The finales for NCIS: Origins season 1 and NCIS season 22 have been set for Monday, April 28 and Monday, May 5 respectively.

When will the NCIS franchise return with new episodes?

In some good news, this break is a short one. The shows released promos at the end of last Monday’s episodes, telling us that the new episodes would air on Monday, April 14. This does mean there are only two more episodes of NCIS: Origins and three more episodes of NCIS left, though.

There are no details about the NCIS: Origins episode at the time of writing this. The promo gives us clips of scenes we’ve already seen, just to make sure everyone knew that the series would return in “two weeks.”

However, NCIS did release more details, and it’s going to be a big one that involves a hitman. This hitman is known as “The Poet,” and the team manage to capture him. However, they don’t know who ordered him, and a Navy chief was the target of the hitman. Is this personal, business, or a mixture of the two?

NCIS and NCIS: Origins will return on Monday, April 14 starting at 9/8c on CBS.
