In some exciting news, Mark Harmon is back on our screens in the NCIS franchise, and it’s for a very special episode. It’s the crossover we never expected, as NCIS and NCIS: Origins switch timeslots for a night to bring us a two-part episode.

Rather than looking like NCIS: Origins will end with a cold case that will remain unsolved until the NCIS team is able to take it on, it looks like we’ll get a case that is reopened due to present-day events. Now everyone on the team will want to get to the bottom of it, especially when they learn that it was one of Gibbs’s first cases.

NCIS: Origins kicks things off in the 1990s

The two shows will switch timeslots for the night, which makes sense as this crossover needs to start with NCIS: Origins. It’s the show earlier in the timeline, and we need to see how Gibbs’s case starts up.

Gibbs and co. are heading to Serenity, California, where they end up with a strange case involving the mysterious death of a Naval officer. Of course, it’s a small town, and that means the residents have secrets, and they’re not exactly going to want to work with the federal agents. Even the sheriff is uncooperative, which sounds like a standard small town, even for now!

This isn’t going to get solved fully right away, but could Gibbs and co. end up putting the wrong man away? That’s something I fear, considering the synopsis for NCIS season 23 episode 5.

“Now and Then” – A prison break by an inmate who had just three weeks left on a sentence compels the team to reopen the case of a naval officer’s death that was originally investigated by Gibbs and Franks in the ‘90s, and enlist the help of retired special agent Vera Strickland. Also, the team has different views on what to include in a special Navy time capsule, on the thrilling conclusion to the decades-spanning crossover event on the CBS Original series NCIS, Tuesday, Nov. 11 (9:00-10:01 PM,

McGee has a question in NCIS season 23 episode 5

In the second hour of the night, the NCIS team will need to handle a case of a man breaking out of prison. This isn’t unusual in itself, as there are always prison break attempts. However, this man only had three weeks left on his sentence. Why would he risk so much when he only had three weeks?

The team needs to reopen a case that Gibbs worked on, which certainly suggests that the case will be closed in NCIS: Origins. That doesn’t mean the right guy is found. One thing McGee wants to know is how cases were solved in the ‘90s, and it certainly wasn’t quite as easy as it is today. However, they’re probably about to find out!

Check out the promo and synopses for the NCIS and NCIS: Origins crossover event:
