Fans of those learning more about Young Gibbs will be disappointed tonight, Monday, Dec. 23. There isn’t going to be a new episode of NCIS: Origins.

The series is on a bit of a lengthy break. This is completely normal, so at this point, fans don’t need to worry about the series. The question now is when the show will return, and what we can expect when it does.

When will NCIS: Origins be back?

The NCIS prequel series will pick back up in the new year. CBS has set the return date as Monday, Jan. 27. Yes, there’s a bit more than a month to wait, but this is normal. In fact, this break is shorter than a few other shows, especially those on ABC and NBC.

The show will continue to air after new episodes of NCIS. So, you’ll want to tune in from 10/9c to watch this one.

We’ve now had the chance to see why Gibbs decided to join NIS in the first place. We’ve also seen how Mike Franks was the one to get Gibbs on his team, despite everything that happened in Mexico. Franks knew all about it, and it’s no wonder Lala was so angry at Gibbs and Franks at the end of the episode before that.

She seems to have accepted it all, though. The end of the episode took us to the present day, where Gibbs had found some shredded notes on “Operation Sundown” and the fact that there was a second sniper. It’s clear that this is a much bigger situation than Gibbs initially expected, and it’s sure to catapult us into the second half of the season.

Why is NCIS: Origins on a break right now?

While we wait, many want to know why we’re waiting. Well, it’s all linked to the season. This is the time of year people spend with family watching movies or outside at events. They’re not watching TV, so the linear ratings take a dip, and that would usually put TV shows at risk. The broadcast networks don’t want to risk that, so they opt for holiday programming and reruns.

The good news is that the break is always worked into the filming schedules. That’s why we’ve had some Christmas-themed episodes of our favorite TV shows.

NCIS: Origins returns on Monday, Jan. 27 at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
