The NCIS: Origins series brings us the tale of Leroy Jethro Gibbs when he first joined NIS under Mike Franks’s leadership. The series is heading on a break, with no more episodes in 2024.
This is bad news for fans of the series. However, it’s not bad news for the show overall. This break is very standard for the broadcast networks, and there will be new episodes in the new year. The previous episode was just the winter finale.
When will NCIS: Origins return with new episodes?
We’ll see a young Gibbs return on Monday, Jan. 27. The episode will air at the usual time of 10 p.m. ET/PT, straight after a new episode of the flagship series. Mondays aren’t going to be changing for some time.
The lack of new episodes right now is mostly about filming. The cast and crew take this time of year off, and there are only so many episodes ready to air. It means a break in the schedule would be needed at some point, and putting the break on over the Christmas and New Year period is the best idea.
This is when people head out to holiday events, or when they want to spend time with family and friends. They’re not watching TV live as much, and this leads to a dip in the linear rating. It puts shows at risk, so the broadcast networks opt to take the time off to avoid that issue.
What to expect when NCIS: Origins returns?
As of right now, CBS hasn’t shared details on what to expect when the series comes back. This isn’t too surprising considering we’re so far out from new episodes.
While the series has been focused on Gibbs as he joins NIS after the deaths of his wife and daughter, it is also the story of “her.” In other words, it’s the story of the woman who becomes his NIS partner, Lala Dominguez, played by Mariel Molino. We’ve seen some development in Lala’s personal life so far, but so far, we haven’t seen just why she has been the “untold story” in Gibbs’s life.
We’ll get more when NCIS: Origins returns on Monday, Jan. 27 at 10/9c on CBS.
