NCIS: Origins remains on a break tonight, but why? (March 3, 2025)

Monday nights aren’t quite normal just yet. NCIS: Origins took a break last week, and that break continues this week. What’s odd is that NCIS season 22 won’t take a break. Just like last week, the show will air a new episode.

What’s going on with the scheduled? When there are breaks in the schedule, CBS tries to take all shows off at once. It doesn’t make sense to have one show go off and another stay on, as this disrupts the schedule later on when it comes to airing finales.

NCIS: Origins has fewer episodes than NCIS

The break in the schedule is likely due to the episode count for the two franchised shows. NCIS season 22 will have 22 episodes, but NCIS: Origins will only have 18 episodes. Two of those episodes had already aired across two nights as a big premiere, which means that there needs to be a three-week break for NCIS: Origins to stay on track with NCIS.

CBS will want the two shows to air their finales on the same date in May. So, the best option is to have some breaks at this point in the season. It doesn’t disrupt too much. The benefit of NCIS: Origins being on at the end of the night is that there isn’t a weird break in the schedule in the middle of Monday nights.

There is a rerun of NCIS: Origins this week. Last week saw a rerun of Watson instead.

When will NCIS: Origins return with new episodes?

It’s not yet clear when we’ll get a new episode of the NCIS prequel series. CBS’s schedule only goes up to March 10 at the time of writing this. That week shows that all Monday shows are off the air.

There is some hope that the series will return on Monday, March 17. We’ll be sure to let you know once there is confirmation from CBS.

NCIS: Origins season 2 is officially happening

This break isn’t something to worry about. CBS has confirmed that there will be a second season of NCIS: Origins. The episode count hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we could see it get a full 22-episode season to match NCIS season 23, which has also been confirmed.
