It seems like NCIS: Origins season 2 has just begun, and it's already close to taking its midseason break. And while the holiday break might be over for many by mid-to-late January, that won’t be the case for several CBS shows this year. But don't worry, there's a perfectly good explanation for the delay.
NCIS: Origins fans still have two more episodes to look forward to, which promise both drama and intriguing cases before the show goes on its winter break. Episode 7, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", will air on CBS Tuesday, Dec. 2, as the franchise is taking a short break this week. Episode 8, "End of the Road", brings a fitting conclusion to the show's midseason.

Why is the NCIS: Origins midseason return delayed?
The showrunners appear to have decided it's best not to return in January for the show only to have to take another month-long break. Why? Because the 2026 Winter Olympics will dominate February programming. And while NCIS: Origins fans might not be too happy about it, there will be a lot going on for sports fans. If you're both, you’ll likely spend the winter in front of the TV as usual.
The Olympics have their Opening Ceremony on Friday, Feb. 6, although some competitions are set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 4. The games officially close on Sunday, Feb. 22. This time, they'll be hosted by Italy, and you can watch athletes compete in speed and figure skating in Milan, Alpine skiing in Cortina, or curling and sliding. And much more than that, of course.
And while the live events will be broadcast on NBC, CBS will likely adjust its schedule around the Olympics and may highlight key matchups or results. They even posted about the ice hockey schedule, so expect to see some level of coverage or commentary.

New episodes of NCIS: Origins arrive on CBS this February
According to TV Insider, episode 9 of NCIS: Origins season 2 will air on CBS on Tuesday, Feb. 24. It's a long wait — more than two months — but with the holidays just around the corner and a couple of shows premiering in January, you won't even notice when the time has passed.
The second half of NCIS: Origins season 2 is already shaping up to be exciting, with a young Dwayne Pride joining the story. His arrival will show yet another facet of the reserved Agent Gibbs, making amends and forming a new bond that will last for decades. And according to the showrunners, there’s still one more surprise character in store — a reveal fans are eagerly awaiting. The back half of the season will make the wait worthwhile.
The extended midseason break means a longer wait for fans, but it also ensures NCIS: Origins returns with uninterrupted episodes and a clear schedule. Once the Olympics conclude, the series will dive back into Gibbs’s early years with renewed momentum and fresh cases.
NCIS: Origins airs on Tuesdays at 9/8c on CBS.
