With the arrival of Sam Hanna in NCIS season 22, episode 18, there was hope that we would finally get an update about a years-long question. What happened to Hetty after NCIS: Los Angeles?
When NCIS: Los Angeles was canceled, there was still some hope of getting Hetty out of Syria, where she was last seen. However, Linda Hunt wasn’t available, and so, Nell put together a task force to go and get her. We saw the group at the very end of the NCIS: Los Angeles series finale, and it opened the door for a movie.
That never happened, though, and since then, there haven’t been updates about Hetty Lange. Well, that changed with NCIS season 22, episode 18.
It looks like Hetty got out alive after NCIS: Los Angeles
During a conversation with Vance, Sam mentioned Hetty. Well, it’s more like Vance mentioned Hetty. He offered Sam a chance to come back to NCIS, but Sam declined, saying that he had some personal projects. When Vance questioned if it was something to do with Hetty’s work at the DMZ.
Vance wasn’t able to confirm anything, though, saying that it was better if Vance didn’t know. We’ll take that as a yes, and we’ll also take it that Nell’s team was able to extract Hetty — or they are all there with this secret project that she’s working on.
This secret project is clearly dangerous, but it’s also official, and that’s why Vance knows about it. Having a civilian working with them (as we now learned that Sam retired from NCIS) is questionable, so it’s no wonder that Sam doesn’t want to confirm anything with Vance at this point.
At least it’s an update, and not just a small one. This is huge as it tells us that Hetty is safe and she’s still up to her schemes. We love Hetty for her secretive work!
NCIS still needs to bring us more updates
While we know that Hetty is alive, what we don’t know is where she is. I would love to see what she’s actually up to right now, but at least with NCIS still on the air, there is a chance to bring us some sort of update. Maybe the NCIS: Sydney team could even end up getting word about her!
The series could continue to offer some updates, especially since Vance knows about this project. Maybe Kasie can get some sort of encrypted message. Just throwing it out there.
NCIS airs on Mondays at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
