After tackling an intriguing and fun Halloween episode, NCIS season 23 episode 4 takes us back to its regular programming. However, the case is still one that’s sure to bring some twists and turns.
During the Halloween-themed episode, the team had to deal with a curious case of nose brain, as Dale Sawyer called it. Something was affecting the brain so much that it was disintegrating, and it almost affected Torres. Fortunately, he was safe from death, but the realization that it was due to a soundwave machine added a layer that NCIS hasn’t offered in a long time.
Now it’s time to get back to the non-Halloween programming, and that should mean a regular case. However, things don’t quite look all that regular.
Murder, kidnapping, and more in NCIS season 23 episode 4
The episode, titled “Gone Girls,” sees the team investigating a murder and kidnapping case. For some reason, someone has killed a guy and then kidnapped his wife, and the team need to figure out why that is. Is this a case of revenge? Could it be some sort of passionate affair? There are plenty of ideas out there.
How does this case bring the team in? Well, a U.S. Marine is suspected to be the murderer and kidnapper rather than the victim for once, and he is suspected of kidnapping the wife of one of the most prominent members of the Department of Justice.
Well, that would explain why we see a lot of Vance in the episode out in the field. This is going to be a high-profile case, and he will want to make sure it’s seen through fully as Director.

It’s a weird case for the team
There is a moment in the promo that tells us everything we need to know going in. It’s going to be a “weird” case. Torres is the one who finishes the sentence McGee was starting with, as they’re on the viewer side of the interrogation mirror.
It certainly seems weird just from the basis that it involves a kidnapping. After all, we’re so used to murder investigations.
There’s no hint of a personal story in this episode, but I do hope that we’ll see something about Palmer and Knight. The latest episode saw Palmer make it clear that he still loves Knight, and this should open the door for them to at least discuss a future together. How long will it take for the NCIS writers to give us what we want?
