We’re ready for the messy case that Benson and co. are sure to get next, but we have to wait for it. There isn’t a new episode of Law & Order: SVU on tonight, Thursday, March 6.
The lack of new episode is certainly disappointing. We just get a string of new episodes and then NBC puts the show back on a break. What’s the deal?
Well, this is a scheduling need. If you want shows back in January after the winter break, then you need to deal with this on-off schedule. There are 22 episodes to a season, but way more than 22 weeks in a TV season. To get the shows to May for finale season, some weeks off are needed, and NBC opts to spread them out rather than do what ABC just did with TGIT.
What’s on the NBC schedule instead?
Tonight, there will at least be a rerun of Law & Order: SVU. We head back to the fourth hour of the current season, which sees Carisi struggle to separate himself from the case. This case, which involves a romantic date gone wrong, gives him a look at what’s in store for his daughters as they grow up.
I don’t think the things that he’s had to work on with Benson have quite sunk in until he’s had daughters of his own. This is realistic of all people, and not just men. We tend not to really take things seriously or empathize with people until we’ve been through a similar situation. Sure, there are some people who can, but not everyone has that ability.
When will Law & Order: SVU return with new episodes?
This break isn’t a long one. We’ll get new episodes on Thursday, March 13, which is what the promo told us when it came out at the end of the previous episode.
The new episode is going to lead to a lot of debate. It initially looks like a female predator. She sleeps with someone who is just 16, and that sparks a trial against her. However, this woman was drugged by the 16-year-old, making her the victim. Would she have slept with him had it not been for the drugs. Would she have been able to tell that there was something he said that didn’t seem right, making her question the age he gave her?
At the same time, can you really be a predator if someone lies about their age? This is something that I’ve often debated in my head or with friends, and I’m intrigued at where the episode will go with it.
Take a look at the promo and synopsis for Law & Order: SVU season 26, episode 15:
"A complicated case of sex and drug use divides the squad; Carisi must convince a jury to focus on the law and not the defendant's accusations."
Law & Order: SVU airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
