It doesn’t seem like Will Trent can catch a break. The Will Trent season 3 finale left him by the bedside of someone important, and he’s also dealing with the reveal of his biological father. What could happen in Will Trent season 4?
In some great news, ABC renewed Will Trent for a fourth season way ahead of the season 3 finale. It was only logical that it was renewed, as it was one of the only shows across all the broadcast networks to see a tick up in the linear ratings from the previous year. However, we will need to wait until 2026 for the new season, as ABC feels like some of the success is due to the uninterrupted schedule with the January start date (and we have to agree).
This gives us time to assess everything that happened in the third season, to figure out what could be next for Will when the show returns. It’s not clear if there’s going to be a time jump yet, so we’re going to assume there isn’t.

Will is sure to still be at Amanda’s bedside in Will Trent season 4
The third season left us with two lives on the line, and Amanda’s was one of them. She is his family, and he made that clear during the final moments of the season. He needs her to pull through the coma that she’s currently in, and when the show returns, assuming there’s no time jump, we’re sure to see him by her bedside as much as possible. He’ll want to be there for when she wakes up.
What if she doesn’t survive? Then we’ll see Will spiral again. He doesn’t deal well with loss and heartbreak, and right now, he likely feels that he’s losing everyone. If she does survive, we’ll likely see him looking over everything that she does, making sure she doesn’t injure herself more.
There’s a chance that she’ll survive but not be able to work again. This could lead to her moving in with Will for a while as she figures out how to help herself once more, while Will has to deal with a new boss.

Will has to deal with his feelings about Angie and his dad in Will Trent
Then there are the personal relationships that came up in the third season. One of those is Angie, who initially didn’t want anything to do with Will, blaming him for turning her in to the cops at the end of season 2. Over the course of the third season, she seemed to accept what he did was the right thing, but they didn’t quite reconnect in the way they used to. And that’s partly because she was seeing someone new.
At the end of Will Trent season 3, Will learned that Angie is pregnant. He stuck around until Seth could make it to her, and then he left the couple to be together. For now, he’s accepting of their relationship, but how long will that last, especially with how things are for Amanda?
On top of that, he’s dealing with learning about his biological father. In Caleb’s defence, he had no idea that Will existed. Now that he does know, he wants Will to be in his life, and he’s invited Will over to meet Caleb’s family. Right now, Will doesn’t want anything to do with them, and that’s completely understandable.
There are a lot of feelings Will is dealing with when it comes to this family he didn’t know about. He’s wondered for years about who his dad is, and now he has found out the truth. He wants to be angry, but how can you be angry when Caleb had no idea about him? I don’t know how I would react with all this, so I’m looking forward to seeing Will work through this. I do hope by the end of Will Trent season 4, we see him open to meeting with Caleb’s family.
Will Trent is available to stream on Hulu and will return sometime in 2026.
