Is a new episode of NCIS: Origins on CBS tonight? (May 5, 2025)

There's a new episode of the NCIS flagship series, so what about NCIS: Origins? Will there be a new episode of the prequel series tonight, Monday, May 5?

Monday nights are NCIS night, right? Well, that’s the way it’s been for the last few TV seasons, with the latest one involving the NCIS flagship series and the Young Gibbs prequel series, NCIS: Origins. There is a change to tonight’s schedule, though.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for NCIS: Origins season 1, episode 18.

There is some bad news tonight, Monday, May 5. There isn’t a new episode of NCIS: Origins airing tonight, despite a new episode of NCIS. There also isn’t a rerun on tonight.

Why isn’t a new episode of NCIS: Origins airing tonight?

The previous episode was certainly a big one, leaving us with a major cliffhanger. As Gibbs got ready to sell his house, Lala raced to him to let him know that she’d solved his problem. However, as she did, she swerved to avoid hitting a young girl and crashed her Jeep, leaving her potentially killed.

With such a big cliffhanger, it probably isn’t that surprising to learn that the episode was the NCIS: Origins season 1 finale. That means we’re into the summer break.

Yes, while there was no doubt for many that this series would likely be a success, the show only landed an 18-episode season. Meanwhile, the flagship series has a 22-episode season. We saw a few weeks where there was no NCIS: Origins following a new episode of NCIS, and now the finales are a week apart.

Instead of a rerun of the prequel series, though, CBS is pushing another freshman series. We’ll get a rerun of Watson, which is a great show for the Sherlock Holmes fans out there.

When will NCIS: Origins return with new episodes?

How long do we need to wait for NCIS: Origins season 2? Well, that’s unclear. All we know right now is that NCIS: Origins will return in the fall. CBS confirmed that at the end of the finale episode.

We’re sure to see it return on Mondays, but we’ll know more of that after the CBS Upfronts later this week. That’s when the full fall schedule will be announced. With a fall start, we’re expecting either September or October 2025, and we’re hoping to see a full 22-episode season this time considering the success of the series.

NCIS: Origins is now available to stream on Paramount+ for those who need to catch up or want to watch again.
