There isn't a new episode of NCIS season 22 in 2024 (but there is some good news)

It's that time of year when shows wrap up for the year. Don't worry; there are still more episodes of NCIS season 22 to come in 2025.

We’re closing in on the end of the year, and that means our favorite shows are going off the air. CBS has delayed many winter finales to as close to Christmas as possible, but there is some bad news for NCIS fans. The last episode of 2024 has now officially aired.

We’re heading into a break now. The break isn’t too long, but it’s still a break that we would prefer not to have. However, this is necessary for the future of the series.

When will NCIS season 22 return with new episodes

In some good news, there isn’t long to wait for a new episode of NCIS season 22. CBS has set January return dates for the majority of its shows. NCIS is one of the first to return, with a Monday, Jan. 27 return date.

Yes, this is later than other broadcast networks, but not by too much—and not when you consider ABC is taking until March off for some shows! The wait is shorter for CBS shows considering they have only just gone off the air for the winter.

The good news is the show isn’t moving timeslots. The 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot is still performing well for the flagship NCIS series.

Why is NCIS going on a break?

This isn’t the only CBS show on a break now. There are many others that have either just started their breaks or are going into them this week. It’s a normal time of year for winter breaks, as more and more families spend time away from the TV. People want to watch movies with the family, or they spend evenings out at company Christmas parties or at events in the local area. It means fewer people are watching linear TV live, and that affects the future of the shows.

On top of that, there’s the filming break. The cast and crew take time off, and that means fewer episodes ready for us. Rather than pushing through winter and putting on a break in January or February, the shows take this time of year off and then start back up again in January when people are less likely to go outside.

NCIS is available on Paramount+ if you want to catch up on episodes or rewatch your favorites.
