The Equalizer remains on a break in January 2025. There is some good news that comes with this.

There isn’t a new episode of The Equalizer season 5 on tonight, Sunday, Jan. 26. This won’t be that surprising to those who have been keeping track on when the series would return. We knew there wouldn’t be new episodes at all this month, despite most CBS shows returning this upcoming week.

What’s on instead of The Equalizer tonight?

We won’t even get a rerun of The Equalizer tonight, Sunday, Jan. 26. Instead, CBS will air the AFC Championship Game, and then straight after that is the new series Watson. It makes sense for the network to put on the new series straight after the game. We saw The Equalizer get a great boost when its series premiere aired straight after the Super Bowl in 2020, and then Tracker got an excellent boost last year.

Watson will air on Sundays and move to the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot after the Super Bowl. That puts it on between Tracker and The Equalizer, which will move to the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. I’m still not sure what to think of this move, but I am worried about the Queen Latifah series because of this.

When is The Equalizer back with new episodes?

So, how long do we need to wait now? The new episodes will start to air on Sunday, Feb. 16. This is the week after the Super Bowl. There are no reruns on the Sundays leading up to this, with the Grammys airing on CBS next Sunday and then a night of Tracker reruns on Super Bowl night.

The wait for the series to come back is a good thing. January is filled with big football games and award shows. While the series could have come back at the start of the month, it would have been for one Sunday before going on a break. That wouldn’t have made sense for consistency purposes, so it’s better to wait until after the Super Bowl. That’s when Sundays return to being steadier.

On top of this, there are fewer weeks between the middle of February and May to fill with new episodes. It usually means there are little to no breaks in the schedule, making the airing more consistent for the fans. This is a good thing for the series.

The Equalizer will return with new episodes on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 10/9c on CBS.
