It did not take long for Peter Krause to find new work in the wake of his exit from ABC’s hit show 911. He is set to star in the pilot for a new series for the NBC network, where he will trade in his fire captain’s hat for the role of Assistant Director of Intelligence.
The new series, titled Protection, was ordered in January and includes executive producers Jenna Bush Hager and Josh Safran. According to TVLine, Krause will portray Mike Thornhill, who previously worked as a Secret Service agent before becoming the Assistant Director of Intelligence. He also comes from a family of law enforcement agents, which comes into play based on the synopsis.

In the longline for the new show, Thornhill’s family becomes embroiled in a “deadly conspiracy” after a U.S. Marshal dies in the line of duty. Things take a turn when it’s discovered an assassin is targeting the family, and they must put their differences aside in order to use their backgrounds to ‘’protect one another and bring the killer to justice.”
While it has not officially been picked up, this will mark Krause’s first role since his shocking exit from 911 as Captain Bobby Nash. Krause appeared in the show from the pilot episode until Season 8 while also being credited as executive producer. Krause is also known for roles in Parenthood and Six Feet Under.
His 911 character died after being exposed to a deadly virus following a call to a lab. Fans of the show are still calling for his return, although it already seemed unlikely even before the news that Krause would be in a new series.
As much as we would still love to see Krause reappear on the show somehow, even in ghost form, we’re excited to see if the show is picked up and to watch him thrive on television once again.
It already sounds interesting based on the logline, and given Bush Hager’s experience with the Secret Service, as the daughter of a former U.S. President, there’s sure to be some interesting storylines that come from this show.
Protection was one of two pilots that were ordered back in January when NBC was looking at scripts for the upcoming television season. This project marks Bush Hager’s first project with her production company Thousand Voices alongside Universal Studios Group. Safran has worked as executive producer for the series Quantico, Smash, and both the original and reboot of Gossip Girl.
