911: Lone Star is airing its fifth and final season on Monday, Sept. 23 and fans are gearing up to say goodbye to their favorite first responders on the show. Unfortunately, one character in particular will not be present in the upcoming episodes, but we do have an idea of where she will be!

Grace Ryder, played by Sierra McClain, has been a beloved staple of the series. She was the show’s main 911 dispatcher and is married to firefighter Judd Ryder, who was the sole surviving crew member of a huge explosion before the season premiere. The couple has been a longstanding favorite, so to not see them together is something completely unfathomable to faithful watchers.

McClain’s exit came as surprising news over the summer. It was speculated to be due to a breakdown in contract renegotiations and she decided to leave the series. This left fans wondering exactly how her exit would be handled on the show. But a recent sneak peek released of the season 5 premiere answered this question.

How is Grace's departure being handled in season 5 of 911: Lone Star?

While Judd was showing his son, Wyatt, the new home that he renovated to make it accessible for him and his new family, Grace was mentioned. While the proud father took photos of Wyatt with his girlfriend, Leigh Ann, and son Liam, it was discovered that Grace was away doing missionary work.

This is in line with Grace’s character and it makes sense that she would find her calling in doing this. Plus, it also allows fans a sigh of relief, knowing that she is still in the picture and that she and Judd are still going strong. While we would love a surprise visit from her since the show is ending after season 5, it’s unknown if she will make an appearance we don’t know about yet.

It will still feel weird to watch the season without her! Plus, who will be the show’s main dispatcher? It has already been revealed that her stepson, Wyatt, will be working in dispatch in her place. Even though Grace won’t be on screen, we hope there will still be mention of how she is doing as the season’s final episodes air. We’re also looking forward to seeing how Judd will do throughout the season, especially since he has retired from the firehouse.

911: Lone Star season 5 premieres on Monday, Sept. 23 at 8/7c on FOX.
