It’s great news for fans of Alert: Missing Persons Unit. The Fox series is coming back for a third season.
This was one of the shows I was worried about. Fox didn’t have much left on the bubble, and very few shows had been canceled. It meant that to bring in something new, something had to go. However, it now looks like Fox is playing things safe and opting to keep current shows on the air.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 3 production will start up right away as well. This is a way to cut the costs on production, something that a lot of studios are looking for ways to do.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 3 is likely coming in midseason 2025
While filming is set to keep going, it doesn’t look like Fox has immediate plans to bring the show back in the fall. The continuous filming is partly to keep costs down, but also a contingency plan should the IATSE strike happen this summer, according to Deadline. Having a few episodes in the can will allow the series to take a fall spot if necessary.
However, there are a lot of shows already planned likely for the fall. We know 911: Lone Star Season 5 will premiere in fall 2024. That was held back this year due to the strike action last summer. We also know Accused Season 2 is being pushed to the 2024–2025 season, although production for that won’t start until the summer, suggesting a midseason slot for that, too.
With everything that is planned, it does look like Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 3 will be held for the midseason again.
How many episodes will be in Alert Season 3?
As of right now, there are few details about the new season. The episode count is still to be decided. Both Seasons 1 and 2 have had 10 episodes. The first season was due to it being a new show and landing a January premiere date. The latter was partly linked to the strike action, but it is possible that 10 episodes would have been decided on anyway as this series may have remained a midseason show.
If this continues to be a January series, then we’re looking at 10 to 13 episodes at the most. This allows Fox to run through to May with just a few breaks. One of the good things about the March start for Season 2 is that there has been no break in the schedule.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye on all things Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
