We’re certainly getting ready for the return of broadcast TV in the fall. Chicago PD Season 12 is one of the premieres we’re looking forward to, and we’re looking ahead at what’s to come for some of the characters. It’s time to take a look at Atwater.

Kevin Atwater has been the most underused character on the series. His character usually ends up being used for the race and gang focused storylines, although some of that has shifted to Torres, especially when it comes to gangs and drug cartels. We need to see something more for Atwater, and that should involve a promotion.

Kevin Atwater could get a promotion in Chicago PD Season 12

According to TV Insider, there is a chance that Atwater will get a promotion. It looks like that is something La Royce Hawkins, who plays the character, would like to see. He has realized something fans have. There is no longer a detective in Intelligence with the exit of Upton.

Someone needs to step up to become take the detective exam. Atwater would make a great detective. While he had a moment of self-doubt in Season 11, he continues to grow as an officer and as a man. He puts his team first, and he looks for ways to solve crimes that others don’t. He is also willing to stand up against the Blue Line, something that has long caused issues for the Black community in Chicago.

On top of that, I would love to see a personal storyline for Atwater. In Season 11, he struggled with the guilt of his actions leading to the death of a victim. The victim’s family blames him, and all he wanted was to make it right. However, it put his career on the line at one point. We need to see him let go of that guilt. Focus on keeping other victims safe instead of worrying too much about the past and learn from mistakes.
