Things are not looking good in the world of FBI: Most Wanted for Barnes and Charlotte. They have struggled in their relationship for a while, and now it looks like the end is nigh.

During the most recent episode, Charlotte dropped a bombshell on Barnes. Charlotte has met someone, and it looks like she’s leaving Barnes for this person. Barnes was completely blindsided by this revelation, living in denial that her marriage was fine.

The problem is Barnes is a workaholic. That’s something that has been noted before in the series, and she hasn’t really done anything to change the disconnect happening with her wife. Charlotte has also been away a lot, and there’s only so much she can do on her own to fix her marriage. She’s at the point where she is done.

Can Barnes and Charlotte work on their marriage in FBI: Most Wanted?

The previous episode left us on a cliffhanger. Barnes wants to work on her marriage, but is Charlotte in a place to do that? In an interview with TV Insider, Roxy Sternberg, who plays Barnes, says that there is some hope.

However, Sternberg doesn’t actually know what is to come to even tease it. The actors get their scripts the week before they film, and Sternberg admits that she doesn’t like knowing storylines too far in advance as it affects her performance. The reaction she had is partly because it was such a blindside for her as an actress as well as her character.

Barnes will lean on someone in the team during this time. She doesn’t say who, but she comments on the “interesting” marital status. We know that she and Nina Chase can bond over being mothers, but is that who Barnes would also turn to for marital advice? Could it be Remy now that the two are in a good place?

This storyline certainly opens the door for the writers to bring in the realities of marriage, which is something 911 has focused on a lot with Hen and Karen. To make a marriage work means communication and openness. It means working together on a shared goal. What happens when the two people in a marriage want something different?

FBI: Most Wanted airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up on Paramount+.
