Blue Bloods is still ending, but a spin-off is possibly in the works

During Paramount's annual stockholders meeting, Blue Bloods came up in conversation. No, the show isn't being saved, but there's an offshoot apparently in the works.

“Wicked Games” – Danny and Baez are on edge when Sam Evans (David R. Nash), a serial killer who once targeted Baez and her daughter, is released early from prison. There are a lot of questions about why CBS is ending some shows. One of the shows coming to an end is the long-running favorite Blue Bloods.

CBS claims financial decisions, the aim to keep the programming fresh, and shelf space, but Blue Bloods remains a firm favorite for so many. Even the cast isn’t ready to give up the series, and it’s led to a lot of calls to uncancel the series. Why not U-turn on it like CBS did with SWAT?

Well, the bad news is Blue Bloods Season 15 isn’t in the works. The good news is CBS seems to be listening in some sort of way.

Blue Bloods may get a spin-off series

When talking at the stockholders meeting, Paramount Global’s co-CEO, Brian Robbins, talked about shows that are getting franchise extensions. Dexter, Billions, and Fire country were mentioned, and we already knew about them.

The one that surprised fans was the news of a Blue Bloods offshoot. This is something that hasn’t been mentioned before. There are no comments from anyone about a spin-off story, and CBS hasn’t confirmed anything since TVLine reported the news.

It’s possible that it could be something that is very early in the works. Maybe Robbins mentioned it earlier than he should. It could also have been a tactical drop to see what the interest in a spin-off series would be.

Who could a Blue Bloods spin-off follow?

The problem with the series is that there’s no clear spin-off focus that we can pick out. This could turn into a series a little like Criminal Minds: Evolution. While that series was initially looked at as a spin-off, it became more of a revival with almost all of the Season 15 cast back in action.

Another idea is that it could follow Jamie, who has been focusing a little more on undercover work recently. Could we see him involved in more of these cases, taking a slightly darker turn?

Another option is to turn it more into a legal drama rather than a cop drama. We could follow Erin as she focuses on a bid to become the DA.

Honestly, as long as I get some Reagan family dinners, I’ll be happy with a spin-off series. I just want to see the family back together around the dinner table.
