Blue Lights Season 2 is almost here. The first two episodes premiere on Thursday, June 13 on BritBox, and you will not want to miss out on it.

The BritBox series picks up with a time jump after the events of the Season 1 finale. That means time to process the devastating end, but not so much time that things are forgotten.

What’s the time jump in Blue Lights Season 2?

The second season picks up a year after the events of Gerry’s death. This is a good thing, in a way. It means that we’re past the initial shock of losing someone close. We know how death initially affects people, and we see it all the time on TV. Sometimes, we need to go ahead of that.

That doesn’t mean Gerry will be forgotten about in the Blue Lights Season 2 premiere, or the rest of the season as a whole. The death of someone sits with us for a while, and we get to see what it’s like a year on from the initial events.

People are also settled in their positions. We get to jump ahead to more action as the cops have figured the initial part of policing out. This allows for a little more everyday drama for them, while also seeing how they’re doing with the latest decisions they’ve made—especially with Tommy off the fast-track.

Time for a new threat to grow

With the McIntyre gang gone, it leaves a hole in Belfast. Of course, that hole would eventually be filled by another gang, but it doesn’t mean that a gang would immediately fill it. A year time jump allows for a realistic storyline to jump into a new gang stepping into that vacuum.

It takes time for someone to claim dominance over a new territory. A lot of shows get this wrong, with an immediate threat to deal with. Instead, Blue Lights will give us, as an audience, a realistic timeline of events.

The best thing is we don’t see the buildup. As much as we would love to, we’ve always seen the story mostly from the viewpoint of the rookies. They don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, and now we get to see everything play out as they learn it.
