CBS may have canceled CSI: Vegas, but they aren't done with the franchise. Find out what to know about another glimpse into the world of CSI.

CBS has been busy planning for their 2024-2025 television schedule. This is also right on the heels of fans learning various of their favorite shows will not be returning, which includes CSI: Vegas, which was a surprise cancellation that no one saw coming. But apparently we haven’t seen the last of the CSI franchise.

Even though CSI: Vegas had a decent amount of viewers with the number reaching 6.234M, it was one of the least watched shows next to So Help Me Todd. In a discussion with reporters, CBS CEO George Cheeks and entertainment president Amy Reisenbach spoke about what went into their decision-making.

They said that while CSI: Vegas would not continue airing on the Paramount+ streaming platform, that didn’t mean they were finished with the universe as a whole.

There is hope for the CSI franchise

Reisenbach was quoted as saying:

"I definitely think that franchise is alive and well and we continue to be in discussions. It’s a part of our legacy."

The show re-intrduced us to some of the characters from the original CSI, which included Gil Grissom, Sara Sidle, Greg Sanders, and Catherine Willows, to name a few. Marg Helgenberger has been with CSI: Vegas since season 2, marking her as the last original cast member to be part of the series once it ends.

The final episode of CSI: Vegas will air on Sunday, May 19, in which there will be an explosion that the CSIs will have to investigate.

Since the cancellation news just came recently, there’s a chance there could be a cliffhanger, which we would hope could be resolved later with an extra episode or even a movie. However, that seems unlikely to happen.

So what could a different iteration of CSI look like? It could perhaps go back to its roots and follow one of the original cast members, such as Eric Szmanda and his adventures as Sanders or even the return of George Eads as Nick Stokes, who had moved to his own lab during the original series run.

For now, we’re looking forward to a new episode, which will air on Sunday, May 12 at 10/9c. That episode, “Heavy Metal,” will follow the investigation into the shooting of an antique shop owner. However, they are somehow missing the bullet. Plus, it will also continue Max’s investigation into what happened at the robotics factory in an earlier episode.
