Chicago PD Season 12 will likely arrive in fall 2024

It was great news for most of the Dick Wolf shows on NBC. Chicago PD was on list of shows renewed. When could we expect to see Chicago PD Season 12?

Chicago PD is coming back for another season. Now all eyes are on when Chicago PD Season 12 will premiere, and we’re expecting fall 2024.

TVLine confirmed that five of the six Dick Wolf shows on NBC have been renewed. This isn’t all that surprising considering the shows remain the top performers on the network. That’s despite the strike action in summer 2023 that caused heavy delays.

We’re not expecting those same delays to happen this time. The strike action is done, and there shouldn’t be a reason for writing work not to start up soon. That would allow for production on the season to start in the summer.

Chicago PD Season 12 will likely premiere in September 2024

NBC didn’t confirm that all shows would return in the fall, but that’s what we’re expecting. We’ll get confirmation in May 2024 during the Upfronts, but we’re pretty certain that NBC will want to get its schedule back on track.

That would suggest a September premiere date for Chicago PD Season 12. With all three One Chicago shows renewed, there’s a good chance that we’ll see Chicago PD remains on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Chicago PD Season 12 will likely have 18-22 episodes

Now for the episode count. We’re fully expecting more than the 13 episodes the series is getting this season. The shorter season this season is simply due to the strike action.

The original plan was for Chicago PD Season 11 to have between 18 and 20 episodes. Not all characters would be in each of the episodes. This was a cost-cutting measure to help keep the shows on the air despite the declining linear ratings (across all networks and shows) and therefore, lower ad revenue.

We could see NBC opting for this plan this season. That would suggest between 18 and 20 episodes for Chicago PD Season 12, but depending on other shows, there could be a chance for a full season. We know Tracy Spiridakos is leaving after this season, and it’s unclear if the team will replace Upton with someone else. This could be a chance to reduce the cast and costs so all other characters can be in all episodes.
