While the start of September is quiet for TV crime dramas on broadcast networks, it’s not on the streamers. Acorn TV has us covered with some great releases, and many of them weekly.
Acorn TV brings some of the best dramas from outside of the United States. We’re looking at British, Canadian, Australian, and more. And there are some excellent releases this month.
The Long Shadow, Bloodlines, and more
You don’t always have time to watch a TV series, but you’ll have time for a feature film. The good news is Acorn TV brings both, and a movie to check out this month is Bloodlines. Set in 1999 New Zealand, we follow Colin Bouwer, a South African emigrant psychiatrist who thinks he will get away with the murder of his wife. However, the New Zealand police and professionals in the medical line of work all work together to get to the bottom of the case.
Another feature film coming out is titled How to Murder Your Wife, which is set in 1977 and follows 65-year-old Alf Benning who decides that he can’t spend the remaining years of his life with his wife. Rather than step out on her, he decides he will kill her instead. And so, we go on an outlandish journey of him figuring out how to kill her and cut her into six bits. It has to be six!
For those who are in the mood for a TV series, you’re covered with The Long Shadow, which is getting a weekly release. DCS Dennis Hoban has his work cut out for him when he finds out a mother of four, Wilma McCann, has been murdered in her home. As more bodies turn out, Dennis is dealing with a serial killer.
