When FBI: International didn’t kill off Forrester in Luke Kleintank’s last episode, we were relieved. However, that relief was short-lived.
The promo for the next episode showed that Forrester had gone dark. In the episode, we learn that it is connected to his mother, and Forrester either doesn’t want to be found or is in some serious danger. It’s up to the team to find him, and Vo has made it clear they will do it with Colin Donnell’s Brian Lang’s help or not.
This whole storyline has us concerned. Messages have come from the Kremlin. It’s clear that this is all linked to espionage and Forrester’s mom. Now we’re extremely worried about how it will all end for Forrester off-screen.
FBI: International knows that the stakes need to be high
There are some shows where characters don’t need to be put at risk of death all the time. The shows are story and character driven with relationships and normal, worldly drama. Then there are shows like FBI: International where the characters do jobs where their lives are on the line every single day.
There needs to be follow-through on some of the life-threatening situations. Without that, we’re left knowing that characters are sure to survive harrowing situations. There’s no incentive for us to watch, worried for our favorites.
That’s why we’re now so concerned about Forrester. He’s clearly in a dangerous situation that involves the Russians, the CIA, and more. Up to now, there have been two major OG cast exits. Both characters have been able to walk away. Even Powell’s exit this season saw him leave rather than die. With the stakes needing to be high, it suggests that Forrester’s exit is going to be a deadly one similar to Jess LaCroix’s exit when Julian McMahon chose to leave FBI: Most Wanted.
Eva-Jane Willis certainly has us worried with her recent comments. She told CinemaBlend:
"This is a show where there are real stakes. We're really going in with guns. We're really being blown up one minute and shot at the next. And we want the stakes to be real and the stakes to be high and for the audience to know that these people really are in danger and they are real people and they might not survive."
The answer is set to come in the finale. At least, that’s the way it seems to be with the current storyline. It looks like Lang is willing to help the team, but it’s going to be with him running the show. Will it be another death on his conscience, though?
FBI: International Season 3 finale airs on Tuesday, May 21 at 9/8c on CBS.
