The series finale of CSI: Vegas aired Sunday, May 19, and it’s still surreal to think that it is the end for good. For three seasons, we were reintroduced to some characters such as Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows, and Greg Sanders. Then, we got to know new characters including Dr. Maxine Roby, Josh Folsom, and many more. So how did the show come to an end?
In the episode before the finale, the team had been looking into who was behind the deaths of people connected to an AI robotics laboratory. While investing Truman Thomas, who was believed to be the prime suspect, CSI Chris Park was exposed to some sort of nerve agent while Max was abducted.
Max was able to get a call out to Catherine, who got help once she found Chris. Despite the attack, he was still alive. So now it was up to the team to find Max and determine how to find Truman.
While searching the underground tunnel to locate Max, Allie and Josh find a car with a body inside. It belonged to Truman, meaning he is not their suspect after all.
The medical examiners find a hair on Truman’s body and even with no bulb to find DNA, Penny can still process it to learn about the person the hair belonged to. They learn that their suspect lived in Saudi Arabia.
They figured out that it was Saudi spies who were behind the murders. They managed to infiltrate the AI lab and were spying on them to learn more about how they used the synthetic DNA being produced. Plus, they were behind a recent hacking at the CSI lab once the team was attempting to look into Truman, afraid that they would find out the Saudis were involved.
They were spying by using the robots, including Ocho, meaning that they knew that Max was still looking into the deaths. Now they were using her to improve on the synthetic DNA Truman had been working on. Max basically was working to fix their DNA encryption while also figuring out how to use a trail in order for the team to go after them.
Luckily, the team managed to find her before the people involved could kill her. Ocho had a microwave receiver attached that was used to help the spies “spy” on the team as close as rhey possibly could. Once they got to the hotel where they were, Josh found Max just in time before she was killed. After it was safe, Max hugged him, telling him she knew he’d find her.
Did the CSI: Vegas finale work to end the series?
Even though this was an unplanned series finale, the show did end on a bittersweet note. While Chris was recovering from the attack, Penny and Jack solidified their engagement. She had been scared about getting married, but after everything that happened, she realized she didn’t want to wait anymore. They planned on marrying within the next couple of months.
Due to Josh’s dedication to finding Max and doing well in his job, she reinstated him to level 3, telling him that he was never gone. This also meant that he was no longer underneath Allie in terms of employment, meaning there was a chance they could one day be together. Plus, we did also learn that Max was in a relationship with someone named Dean. While we won’t get to meet him now, sadly, we’re glad she has someone special in her corner.
It was an ending that helped to finish off the show, even though fans are still devastated that the show won’t return. Luckily, CBS learned from the cancellation of NCIS: Hawaii and cut a major cliffhanger that originally was part of the show’s ending.
If the show had continued as planned, we would have met a new killer that was going after the homeless with some sort of scythe. That would have been an interesting arc to watch!
Despite not being able to watch new episodes now, we can at least look back at the previous seasons on Paramount+.
