How did Gaines leave the Fugitive Task Force in FBI: Most Wanted?

We knew Kristin Gaines would leave the Fugitive Task Force in the FBI: Most Wanted Season 5 premiere. How did the show write that exit in?

When news broke in August that Alexa Davalos was leaving FBI: Most Wanted, eyes were on how her character Kristin Gaines would leave the team. We had to wait until the Season 5 premiere to get some answers.

Caution: There are minor spoilers from the FBI: Most Wanted Season 5 premiere in this post

We still don’t have all the answers. All we know is that Gaines is out and Chase is in. However, Shantel VanSanten’s Nina Chase may offer some hints as to why Gaines abruptly left the team.

Were Gaines and Remy together in FBI: Most Wanted?

Chase immediately came in with questions. She wanted to know if the rumors about Remy and Gaines having something together outside of work were true.

It’s not really like Chase has room to talk or judge. She and Scola started dating while they worked together at the New York field office. They are still together now as they parent their son. However, the two were on the same level at the field office. Remy was Gaines’s boss, and that may be something Chase is wary of.

Remy declined to answer Chase’s questions, making it clear that his personal life is nothing to do with Chase. Does that hint that maybe there was something going on between Gaines and Remy?

There were some moments in FBI: Most Wanted Season 4 that saw the two flirting a little with each other. However, that could just be the way they work. It was clear Remy trusted Gaines and loved her intelligence. If Gaines caught wind of rumors, she may have decided to get out of the Fugitive Task Force before those rumors affected her career. After all, we know that those types of rumors still do more damage to a woman’s career than a man’s.

FBI: Most Wanted Season 5 airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
