7 Hulu crime shows to watch on Valentine's Day
The Americans
What happens when a fake "marriage" turns into the real deal? That's just one of the many mysteries featured on FX's acclaimed spy drama The Americans. Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell) are a seemingly normal couple of parents in 1980s Washington D.C. In reality, they're deep-cover KGB agents taking on spy jobs, including murder.
The couple is amazing in how what started as a fake marriage deepens even as they have affairs with others. They also let you root for them even when you know they're the bad guys. The twists and turns are spectacular, capped off by one of the most acclaimed TV series finales ever. The fact that Rhys and Russell are married in real life just shows how amazing their on-screen pairing worked, even if they're not a typical couple.
Lethal Weapon
For those enjoying more of a "bromance," you can't go wrong with this 2016-19 FOX adaption of the hit Lethal Weapon movies. The setup is mostly the same as veteran cop Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) partners with Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford), a total nutcase. The pair work well together in a good friendship and some warm stuff with Murtaugh and his wife.
The show did have a big shift in season 3, with Crawford replaced by Seann William Scott, but it still managed to make the partnership between the leads work. It was a great mix of action and comedy, and like the movies, it rests on the close connection of the two cops for a fun watch for the holiday.
