We’re getting closer to the finale of Murdoch Mysteries Season 17. Of course, that leads to questions about whether it’s going to be the final season or not. Will there be an 18th season?
This isn’t a U.S. series. It’s a Canadian one, and that means the Canadian network where the show airs is the one with the renewal power. The good news is that CBC loves the viewing figures for this period crime drama. Murdoch Mysteries Season 18 is officially happening.
Murdoch Mysteries Season 18 has already started filming
It looks like filming has already started to take place. This is only recent, with filming taking place in Hamilton, Ontario. This is one of the popular locations for the series. Fans will remember that the series tends to film the second episode first, and shared photos tell us a lot about the time period of the second episode.
There is a photo of Crabtree dressed as a British soldier. It looks like the War of 1812 is upon them, and Crabtree is naturally on the Canadian side of this battle. There were Canadian and American flags on the battlefield to help confirm the time period.
It doesn’t sound like anyone is ready for this series to come to an end. A lot of the time, leads decide that they want to go onto other projects, but that’s not the case for Yannick Bisson. He loves his job, and so does showrunner Peter Mitchell. The two are happy to keep the series going for a little longer.
There may be some cast exits coming, though. The end of Season 17 saw Julia take a job in England, without even thinking about Murdoch. She did say that he could join her, but he got his dream job as Inspector. Of course, he now wants to stay. But that means potentially losing his love. Is this for good, or is there hope for the two of them to be back together later?
When could Murdoch Mysteries Season 18 premiere on CBC?
Now for when it could premiere. With filming starting up now, we could see the season arrive toward the end of this year or the start of next year.
What’s not clear is how many episodes we should expect. Seasons have changed episode counts, with them getting longer recently. It could all depend on what happens with the Canadian writers, who may end up going on strike this summer.
