Could NCIS finally be reaching the end of the road? A major CBS executive has chimed in on it!

Reaching 21 seasons is a milestone for any show, especially a crime procedural. NCIS has beaten those odds, still going strong, and while no longer as highly rated as it once was, it’s still a major success for CBS and inspired several spin-offs.

Still, the move from its traditional Tuesday slot to Mondays a few years ago has affected NCIS with lower ratings. Mark Harmon's loss is still being felt, and this year, the show will also have to address the death of David McCallum, who played beloved medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard.

So, the concern is that CBS may want to see NCIS end its run. It’s already outlasted NCIS: Los Angeles and with CBS also ending the long-running Blue Bloods later this year, the idea NCIS can follow suit is up there.

So what does a major CBS executive have to say on NCIS’ renewal chances?

Is NCIS in danger of being canceled soon?

Speaking in a long piece to Deadline on CBS’s future plans, CBS director of programming Amy Reisenbach was asked about NCIS and its chances of continuing.

"I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. It’s a fantastic cast with a fantastic writing staff that’s been there a really long time. They’re just as reenergized today as they were as when I started on the show in Season 8 [as current executive]. So, as long as they want to keep it going, we’re thrilled to be on the NCIS train."

It does seem that fans agree with Reisenbach as NCIS still retains a high number in live ratings and playback, not to mention being popular in streaming numbers on Paramount+.

So fans can be assured CBS has no plans to end NCIS anytime soon and the chances it can run another two decades if the network has anything to say about it.
