Yes, you can expect the Law & Order Season 23 premiere in January 2024
It has most definitely been a long wait for the return of Law & Order. In fact, all of broadcast has been heavily delayed, but we’re finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel—and it’s not a train.
NBC renewed the Dick Wolf drama in spring 2023. The initial plan was for this series to return in fall 2023, but the summer led to a lot of delays. The writers and then the actors went on strike, and the two strikes didn’t come to an end until the fall. Production of shows couldn’t start up until after Thanksgiving.
In some good news, NBC has managed to bring most shows back in January 2024. That includes Law & Order Season 23.
When will Law & Order Season 23 premiere on NBC?
How long do we need to wait? After all, most NBC shows are back in the first week of January. We just have to wait a little bit longer.
Law & Order Season 23 will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 18. The episode will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT, kicking off Thursdays full of the Dick Wolf franchise as it has done for the last two seasons.
Right now, we’re not sure on exact episode counts. NBC wants 13 episodes to most of its shows, but there is a chance that some of them will need to be 10 episodes due to the production needs. Law & Order shows don’t take too long to film and get through post-production as the likes of Quantum Leap, so we are likely to see 13 episodes for this one.
There is a huge change coming. Jeffrey Donovan will not be back as Detective Frank Cosgrove. Due to “creative differences,” Donovan left the series before filming got underway. We know that Reid Scott will come into the show, but his character details haven’t been shared just yet. We may see him replace Cosgrove.
