Law & Order Season 24 likely to come in fall 2024

Law & Order Season 24 is officially a go at NBC. We take a look at why we're likely going to see it premiere in fall 2024.

There was some excellent news last week for the bulk of Dick Wolf programming on NBC. Law & Order Season 24 is officially happening, and now fans want to know when to expect it.

The renewal came along with the renewal of four other Dick Wolf shows on the network. The only one not to land an early renewal at this point is Law & Order: Organized Crime. That doesn’t mean it’s canceled, but it’s not renewed just yet.

Law & Order is, though. The renewal isn’t that surprising when you consider how well it is performing in the linear ratings for the network. We probably won’t have to wait too long for the season, either.

When will Law & Order Season 24 premiere on NBC?

While we had to wait until January 2024 for Law & Order Season 23, we probably won’t have to wait until January next year for the next season. The delay wasn’t an initial NBC decision. The network wanted to bring the show back in the fall, but the strike action caused a problem. With writing and production work not able to happen in the spring and summer of 2023, it meant that all broadcast shows were delayed.

This shouldn’t happen this year. There is no reason for production not to happen during the summer at this point. So, it will mean Law & Order will be able to film as usual.

NBC will release its fall scheduled in May 2024. That’s when we’ll get confirmation, but we’re fully expecting to see Law & Order return on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT this fall. The exact premiere date will then be revealed in June or July, but it’s usually sometime in September.

There has been a big change in casting this season, but it doesn’t look like that change has affected too much. The show remains the fifth most popular in the demo and the audience for the network in terms of scripted content.

Law & Order currently airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC.
