Yes, there will be new episodes of Law & Order: SVU in January 2024
It’s been a long hiatus for broadcast shows. While NBC initially planned for Law & Order: SVU Season 25 to premiere in fall 2023, that couldn’t happen.
The strikes happened throughout the summer. Without negotiations, both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes went on for more than 100 days each. They finally ended in the fall, and production was able to start up on broadcast shows after Thanksgiving.
Of course, the Dick Wolf shows were among the first to get back to work. That included Law & Order: SVU, which will return for its 25th season!
When will Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premiere on NBC?
We don’t have to wait much longer for the series to return. It’s one of the first, with NBC opting for mid-January for a lot of shows compared to mid-February that CBS and ABC have opted for. Hey, at least we’re not like The CW without return dates at all!
Law & Order: SVU Season 25 will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 18. The episode will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT, sandwiched in between other Law & Order shows as normal. And yes, you will be able to watch the episodes on Peacock the following day.
There is some exciting news when it comes to a character return. Kelli Giddish will be back as Amanda Rollins. It’s only for the premiere at this point, but it certainly opens the door for a longer return. This is going to ease the loss of Rollins’s initial replacement, Grace Muncy. Molly Burnett is not coming back to the show for the 25th season.
There is no word on storylines or any potential crossover episodes just yet. We hope to get 13 episodes considering how quickly the show was able to get back into production, although some networks are working with 10 episodes for their shows.
Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premieres on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
