Luke Kleintank is leaving FBI: International: Here's when and why

There is another major change coming to the FBI: International team. Luke Kleintank is the latest OG cast member to leave the series.

CBS confirmed Kleintank’s exit ahead of the new episode on Tuesday, April 23. TVLine reported the news, sharing when the exit will happen and whose decision it is.

When will Luke Kleintank leave FBI: International?

The exit is happening before the Season 3 finale. TVLine confirmed that the last episode with Scott Forrester will be on Tuesday, May 7. This will be at the usual time of 9 p.m. ET//PT.

It’s not clear how the exit will happen. The last time one of the FBI teams lost their leader, it came with a devastating storyline. FBI: Most Wanted’s Julian McMahon chose to leave the series during its third season, and it looked like there was an option to have Jess LaCroix head off on vacation with Sarah and decide to retire. Instead, the show opted to kill off the character.

Could we see the same fate with Kleintank’s character, Forrester? After all, the show has already seen two exits where OG characters have joined other teams, with the latest being Jamie Kellett, who decided it was time to return to the U.S. and was transferred to the Washington DC office. The end of the first season saw Christiane Paul’s Jaeger head off to the Europol HQ. So, it does seem a little overdue to have a character killed off considering the dangers of the work.

Why is Luke Kleintank leaving the FBI spin-off?

This isn’t a creative decision, so it’s not the show’s fault this exit is coming. Instead, Kleintank has made the difficult decision to leave the series.

In an announcement, he shared that he wanted to spend more time with his family. Fans will remember that Forrester was missing from a few episodes during Season 2. This was to allow Kleintank to take paternity leave after his wife had their first child. With International filming across Europe and his wife and child in the United States, it’s not that surprising that he’s decided to move back home. That means coming out of the series.

Of course, now there are questions about Tank. Tank is Forrester’s dog and not just the Fly Team’s dog. We should see Tank in the Season 3 finale, but how is that going to be possible when Forrester isn’t going to be around? Does this mean something deadly will happen to Forrester, or will Tank show up so we can see him going back to the States with his owner?
