Magnum PI's tiki bar will be used in NCIS: Hawaii but not in the way we'd like

The good news for Magnum PI fans is that Rick's bar will be popping up in NCIS: Hawaii! But it's not going to be quite the same...

It looks like an important part of Magnum PI will be moving to NCIS: Hawaii! But it’s not quite the crossover fans were hoping for. Find out more here.

Fans of Magnum PI are still saddened by the news that the big two-hour Season 5 finale on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024 is going to be the series finale. The show has been axed before by CBS in 2022 before NBC swooped in to pick it up for another year.

Yet despite a good new home, the series was axed amid buzz it was a victim of the writer and actor strikes occurring across Hollywood in the summer of 2022. So while not intended, the Season 5 finale is a series closer.

One thing that has fans curious is the chances of the characters still popping up on other shows, including NCIS: Hawaii. It was established that Magnum PI exists in the same universe as Hawaii Five-O with the two shows doing a crossover and a link to NCIS as well.

As it turns out, one prominent part of Magnum PI will be popping up on NCIS: Hawaii but not the one fans might have expected.

What happens to La Mariana on Magnum PI?

During his weekly mailbag for readers, TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich was asked by a reader if there was a chance any Magnum PI characters could pop up on NCIS: Hawaii. As it happened, Mitovich had wondered the same thing.

"Funny, I had suggested to Magnum‘s Zachary Knighton that a future NCIS: Hawai’i case could/should lead Tennant’s team to Rick’s tiki bar, but… I, alas, must report that said set has already been claimed by NCIS: Hawai’i (and is being modified enough to not be recognizable as La Mariana)."

Rick’s bar had been a prominent part of the show as a hangout for the gang and occasionally the scene of a crime. It might have been fun for the NCIS: Hawaii team to use it as a watering hole with Rick or TC making the occasional cameo.

Sadly, while the bar will be used in this fashion, it won't be La Mariana so the chances of any cameos appear to be low. It would be tricky making a cross-network crossover work in the first place and the NCIS: Hawaii producers just want to use an already prepared set rather than make it a crossover event.

So while Magnum PI fans can recognize a bit of La Mariana in NCIS: Hawaii, this is likely the extent of any crossovers between the shows.

The Magnum PI series finale airs on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 9/8c on NBC.
