There is some great, but arguably not surprising, news in the NCISverse. One of the shows has been renewed. It’s all about NCIS: Sydney Season 2 in this post.
Deadline confirmed that the Australian-set drama is coming back for another season. This isn’t surprising considering it was one of the strongest performers of this TV season.
The series was commissioned back in February 2022. However, filming of the series didn’t start until May 2023. Despite the strike action during the summer in Hollywood, the series was able to keep going as it was an Australian project under a different union. This allowed for a fall premiere.
The unsurprising renewal of NCIS: Sydney
The strikes certainly played a part in the show’s success. The series was one of the only new pieces of content arriving on broadcast TV in fall 2023. At least, when it came to scripted content. CBS also decided to put the show on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, which was NCIS’s original timeslot and is still strong for FBI.
This led to the series being the No. 1 new show in the fall. Since the arrival of other new shows, it’s now No. 3 just behind Tracker and Elsbeth.
When could NCIS: Sydney Season 2 premiere?
With the renewal right now, the writing work can start. This could allow for a July start date when it comes to filming. Filming could even take place earlier than that.
It could mean a fall 2024 premiere date for the series. It would make sense to keep this series on in the fall considering its success. However, it’s worth noting that CBS hasn’t confirmed when the series could return just yet.
NCIS: Sydney was originally intended for streaming in the U.S. It looks like the strike action encouraged the network to attempt a linear viewing, but that could change for Season 2. After all, the series dubbed NCIS: Europe, which is the Tiva spin-off series, is currently not heading to linear and instead will be a Paramount+ series.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for all updates regarding the show and the NCISverse as a whole.
NCIS: Sydney is available to stream on Paramount+.
