There is always a push for love in TV shows. I understand why so many people want it, but it’s such a breath of fresh air when we see lead characters—especially female characters—who are happy being single. And it looks like that’s what we’re getting with Elsbeth.
Carrie Preston’s character from The Good Wife moved from Chicago to New York. She’s gone from lawyer to private detective, and her quirky ways are certainly great for solving crimes. Instead of the traditional whodunit, though, we get the howdunit form of storytelling, which also keeps us entertained.
Now fans would like to know what to expect in the second season. Don’t expect Elsbeth finding love.
Elsbeth is happy single in the series for now
Preston told TVLine that her character is happy with her life at the moment. She’s moved to New York for a new adventure, and she doesn’t need to complicate that with a new relationship.
Preston loves that the character is reinventing herself. The best way for her to do that is to be focused on herself, her career, and her son. She is a very busy woman, so does she even have time for love? Could we not just focus on fulfilment doesn’t have to come from relationships? There is nothing wrong with being single.
"She’s come to New York from Chicago, reinventing herself in some ways, so I think it’s great she’s not attached to anyone except her self and her career, her son…. It will be interesting to see if we ever see a love interest for her, because she’s very busy — and happily so!"
The comments did come off the back of a fan wondering if we would see her son’s father at any point in the series. After all, this wasn’t an immaculate conception! Well, we’ve actually already met the father of her son. That is Elsbeth’s ex-husband Mike Tascioni, who was played by Will Patton in The Good Wife across several episodes of Season 7.
Preston didn’t rule out not seeing Mike turn up. All she said was that there wasn’t a romance in the cards right now. Could Mike turn up and cause a few problems? Could he have some regrets seeing how far Elsbeth has come in New York?
