The last One Chicago crossover event happened before the pandemic. Since then, there have been a few characters pop over from time to time, but the three shows haven’t combined for one big event again.
When the pandemic was going on, this was understandable. There were limits to the number of people who could be on set, and it was much harder to handle something on the size that it was. Then the strike action happened in the summer of 2023. The idea of getting a One Chicago crossover last year was crazy.
What about now, though? As things settle down, could we see a crossover happen again? And by crossover, we mean a three-episode event.
Gwen Sigan is positive about a One Chicago crossover event
Chicago PD boss Gwen Sigan hasn’t ruled out a crossover event. She shared that this is something that the three shows have talked about. “There are always talks,” she shared with TVLine.
What’s stopping the three shows? There are a few things, but it’s mostly about schedules aligning. While the three shows film around Chicago, they are still in somewhat different locations and they can end up filming at different times of the day. It will depend on the locations of all teams.
Then there’s the storyline that needs to be there. None of us want to see a crossover event for the sake of a crossover event. For me, the best crossover was the last one they did, where all three shows were heavily involved in each other’s hour.
Before, the shows have started off an event with Chicago Fire or Chicago Med and focused on that team and then moved onto the next show and finished with Chicago PD. It was great to have the storyline interconnected with all three shows when it came to the infection that was being used for a terrorist plot.
We’re hopeful that there will be another true crossover event in the future.
All three One Chicago shows air on Wednesdays on NBC. Chicago PD ends the night at 10/9c.
