The Irrational wrapped up its main storyline in the Season 1 finale. But a big question is if one key character will be back in Season 2. Find out here.
Caution: This article contains spoilers for The Irrational Season 1 finale
The Season 1 finale finally brought the search for who really bombed the church back in 2002 to a close. After twists and turns, it was revealed the man behind the bombing was Alec’s old friend, Senator Sanford, but not for the obvious reasons.
Sanford had been having an affair with a staffer and gave her drugs to “loosen her up.” Sadly, the woman had an opioid allergy and suffered a fatal overdose. To cover up the death, Sanford arranged for her to be blown up at the church but didn’t expect people there. He did, however, accept the boost it gave to his campaign.
Alec pulled a move Columbo would be proud of to trick Sanford into confessing his crime to the press, so he was arrested. However, a bigger move was when Alec’s aide Phoebe announced she was accepting a research apprenticeship with Professor Rachel Myers.
Phoebe explained to Rizwan that she felt overwhelmed by so many crimes and the bombing earlier in the year and for her own mental health, she needed a change. She was worried about telling Alec, only to learn Alec was the one who recommended her for the spot.
So does this mean Phoebe is gone for Season 2?
Is Phoebe coming back for The Irrational Season 2?
Speaking to TV Insider, showrunner Arika Lisanne Mittman was quick to assure fans that this is not the last of Phoebe.
"Molly will continue to be a series regular in Season 2. … We wanted to be honest to the character and honor what she’s going through mentally and not have her panic disorder solved in an episode and have everything just go back to normal. We really wanted to put her character through something, but she is taking this other position. She will have stories there, and we’ll go from there, but she is definitely going to continue to be a big part of the fabric of the show."
The Irrational Season 2 should have Phoebe returning and the interesting dynamic of how Rizwan adjusts to her absence and stepping up as Mercer’s main assistant. Hopefully, the woman just needed a break to mentally recharge herself before diving back into the field.
Thus, fans can be assured that Phoebe is coming back for The Irrational Season 2, even if it’s not quite the full-time aide expected.
The Irrational Season 1 is streaming on Peacock.
