We probably won't see Big Little Lies Season 3 in 2025

We recently got some great news. Big Little Lies Season 3 is officially happening. The bad news is that I wouldn’t expect it until 2026.

Big Little Lies Season 2 aired back in 2019. There have been a lot of comments about Season 3 over the years. At first, they didn’t sound all that positive, with everyone making it clear that it would only happen if there was a story.

To be fair, the second season was a surprise. The series was originally billed as a limited series based on one single book. Then everyone found a way to create a story for a second season, and that was developed. It seemed like storylines had come to a close, but Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley have surprised us. The series is coming back for a third season.

David E. Kelley is busy with something else before Big Little Lies

Now for the bad news. David E. Kelley is a busy man. He is currently working on Presumed Innocent, which premiered on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, June 12. There will still be some promotion work to do for that series, and Kelley wouldn’t have been able to work on Big Little Lies at the same time.

Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have taken over most of the initial work for Kelley, TVLine reports. This means that some of the pre-production can get started. However, the real work isn’t going to happen until Kelley gets a chance, and he admits that there is a lot to do. The stars of the series are big names and have a lot of other projects they’re working on, so getting schedules to align isn’t going to be that easy.

While he doesn’t say that we’ll have to wait until 2026, that makes the most sense with statements. We’re in the middle of 2024. HBO will have set up a plan for 2025 already. In fact, the premium cable network is likely looking ahead at 2026 right now, and probably agreed to Big Little Lies Season 3 with 2026 in mind.

I would love to see it come out in 2025, but I’m trying to be realistic.
